Contains the following types of materials: photographs, prints, souvenir booklets. Covers the following war: Civil War. General description of the collection: The Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Post 201 photograph collection consists primarily of Carlisle's G.A.R. members, including numerous group shots, some with identifications. There are only a few photos from the Civil War itself, and they are all carte de visite portraits of famous generals. Some of the photos also show Sons of Union Veteran and their support to the G.A.R. All the photos are in box 1. Box 2 contains the prints and souvenirs, most of these relating to Gettysburg or the war in general and veterans thereof.

In 1866, Union veterans of the Civil War organized into the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), which existed until 1956. In 1881, the GAR formed the Sons of Veterans of the United States of America (SV) to carry on its traditions. Membership was open to any man who could prove ancestry to a member of the GAR or to a veteran eligible for membership.
